Eczema is the most common skin condition in childhood, often starting in the first year of life on the cheeks, scalp and body, and later in the creases of the elbows and knees. Itching can disturb sleep for the whole family.

Most children improve as they grow older. Good day-to-day care makes a big difference, and with the right plan most children can have their eczema well controlled.

## How We Can Help

- A written, family-friendly eczema plan: emollients, bathing and how to treat flares quickly and safely.
- Reassurance and clear guidance about using steroid creams and other anti-inflammatory treatments in children.
- Assessment for infection and for food or contact allergy where the history suggests it.
- Options for severe eczema that does not respond to creams, including systemic and newer treatments where appropriate.

## When to get urgent help

If your child’s eczema suddenly becomes painful, weepy or crusted with punched-out sores, or they have a fever or seem unwell, seek same-day medical advice.
