Most moles and skin growths are harmless, but some skin cancers, including melanoma, can look like a mole at first. Checking new or changing lesions early gives the best outcome.

A useful guide is the ABCDE checklist: Asymmetry, irregular Border, uneven Colour, Diameter larger than about 6 mm, and Evolving (changing in size, shape or colour). A mole that looks different from your other moles is also worth checking.

## How We Can Help

- Examination of individual lesions, or a full skin check, including dermoscopy (magnified examination) in clinic.
- A remote Mole Check: send up to 6 photos for a consultant opinion within 72 hours.
- Clear advice on whether a lesion can be safely monitored, or needs a biopsy or removal.
- Treatment and follow-up for skin cancers, and advice on sun protection and self-checking.

## When to get urgent help

If a mole is changing quickly, bleeding or itching, or you are worried it could be melanoma, contact your GP promptly. An urgent NHS referral may be appropriate and should not be delayed while waiting for a private review.
